This is a hardcover book collecting the works "WORKSHOP" and "CORNUCOPIAE" Joan Ravis TEXTORIS (a French writer and philosopher who lived between the thirteenth and fourteenth century AD), printed both by JOAN. GRYPHIUM in Venice in 1574.
Presents capitals in the head and foot, a blanket in the back with gold leather and interesting woodcuts, the most beautiful is used as a mark of the printer: a winged griffin holding a block of wood which is engaged with a ball wings, there are around the words "virtue leader - Comite luck." And 'present possession of a stamp that says "Brighi Paul Library of Cesena. Paul Brighi probably lived during the nineteenth century and was a collector of old books, in contact with Vieusseux.
pessimo0 The volume is preserved, and it is likely who suffered the consequences of a 'flood or otherwise flood the place where it was kept once the cards are brittle, muddy and characterized by very dark spots caused by tanning substances and / or dyeing leather covered that have faded on the cards. These spots are particularly extensive and affects most points in the readability of the text. The deck is warped, rigid, with deposits of mud and not properly anchored to the body of the book.
I have already run on this volume filing, collating, disassembly, cleaning, dry all parts of the book, washing and deacidification of papers, the most interesting challenge will be try to find a way (alternative to the traditional remove stains with hydrogen peroxide) to remove brown spots on the cards. I post some photos of the volume, completion of the restoration will publish the report with the results: the characteristics of this book make it a very interesting case study.
